A mum has found her two young daughters knifed to death allegedly by a suspected paedophile killer she met on a dating app.

A huge manhunt was underway in Russia for Vitaly Molchanov, 41, who was seen in a red and black tracksuit soon after the attack in Rybinsk, police said.

Valentina Saprunova, 40, came home from work at a local hospital in Rybinsk, Yaroslav on Tuesday to find her daughters Elena, eight, and Yana, 13, “literally shredded” by a knife, The Sun reports.

The younger girl’s body was dismembered, and Molchanov was seen fleeing from the scene on a white bicycle.

Both girls had been raped, according to forensic evidence.

Molchanov was caught hiding in bushes outside Rybinsk where he had been sleeping rough.

Video shows him sitting in long grass after he was arrested and handcuffed.

“At about 8pm I opened another bottle, and finished it at about 10pm. And, so to say, killed them,” he told police after his arrest.

The Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case into a double-child murder “committed with extreme cruelty”.

Ms Saprunova, a nurse, met Molchanov via an online dating app around six months ago, according to Russian reports citing law enforcement.

She moved more than 2500km across Russia to live with Molchanov — unaware of his criminal past as a child murderer and sex attacker.

He told her he was wrongly convicted but didn’t detail the seriousness of his crimes.

In a social media update posted in April, before Ms Saprunova moved in, he wrote: “This is my girlfriend, this is very sad that we are in different cities, but I love her and we can solve all the other issues.”

Local media reports detailed Molchanov’s criminal past and

“He had already served a sentence for… the rape and murder of a child,” REN TV stated.

“But Vitaly hid it from her.”

Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper reported: “Vitaly carefully concealed his criminal past from his girlfriend.

“Otherwise, this woman, knowing the crimes for which her lover was sentenced, would in all probability not agree to uproot from the Omsk region to Rybinsk and with her two children to move in with him.”

Molchanov didn’t tell his partner about his criminal past.

Sources said that Molchanov had become angry and “jealous” that Ms Saprunova’s job involved 24-hour shifts, from which she often came back late.

“This woman came to look for happiness in Rybinsk. I feel so sorry for her and the girls. He is a beast,” a neighbour said.

Another neighbour said the couple seemed to be “madly in love”, and were often seen holding hands, jogging together or riding bicycles.

Russia’s children ombudsman Anna Kuznetsova called the killings “inhuman”.

“No words to describe... A terrible crime,” she said.

“It is known that he was previously convicted of the rape and murder of a child. Now two more girls have become victims.”

She demanded more action from the Kremlin to combat paedophiles, including a register and “supervision” for child sex attackers.

“Children are dying, let’s take these or other measures to protect children,” she said.

The suspect will also face two charges relating to sexual violence.

Earlier, it was believed Molchanov had been released from prison in 2010 after serving a long sentence, according to local reports.

But law enforcement have now clarified that Molchanov had been released from jail in December last year after serving a sentence for “especially grave crimes, including murder”.

Ms Saprunov lost her two girls.
