Young woman kicked by Melbourne police officer at St Kilda Beach after refusing to stop

A Melbourne police officer has been filmed kicking a young woman who aggressively stormed toward him at a beach.

Victoria Police said they were called to St Kilda Beach on Sunday afternoon where two young women were reportedly intoxicated and harassing other members of the public.

Police said neither of them would respond to their directions and one approached the officer in a “threatening manner” and would not stop when asked.

“The action used by the officer is deemed appropriate in relation to the aggressive behaviour by the female,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“The girls continued to act in an aggressive manner so the officer deployed OC foam to subdue them.”

He appears to lift his leg and pushes his foot into her and she slams to the ground.

After the incident, a 16-year-old from Selby and a 16-year-old from Marysville were arrested for drunken behaviour and released into the care of parents.

“Victoria Police are focused on the safety of the community and will not tolerate anti-social behaviour,” police said. WATCH VIDEO
