A mother and her new boyfriend charged with manslaughter over the death of a three-year-old have been identified.

Laura Peverill, 37, and her boyfriend Aaron Hill, are alleged to have left three-year-old Rylee Rose Black in the back seat of a car in Townsville as temperatures climbed on Friday.

The distressed mother rushed her to Townsville University Hospital when she found Rylee unconscious in the car, but she couldn’t be saved.

Both Peverill and Hill were remanded in custody after being charged with manslaughter over the little girl’s death.

Police believe Peverill left her home in Burdell with Rylee in the car about 8am.

She returned home less than an hour later but didn’t bring her daughter inside.

The little girl wasn’t discovered for another five hours as Queensland found itself in the grips of a heatwave.

Temperatures in Townsville on Friday soared to 33C. Experts say inside the car, it could have been as hot as 70C.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Miles said the tragedy was preventable.

“The charge of manslaughter indicates that there has been negligence on the part of the people responsible for the child’s health and wellbeing,” he told reporters on Saturday.

Neither Peverill or Hill applied for bailing during brief court appearances on Saturday.

The case will next be heard on December 14.
