Mum slammed on social media for manicuring her baby's nails

A mum has been slammed online for manicuring her baby's nails.

A mum has been slammed online after sharing a photo of her baby’s nails after giving her a manicure.

The snap was posted by the anonymous woman on social media after she filed the infant’s tiny nails into the popular almond nail shape.

It instantly provoked outrage, with fellow parents expressing serious concerns for the baby’s safety.

“Would this count as child abuse or endangerment if the child hurt itself with these nails?” one person wrote on Reddit.

“It’s technically giving a child several sharp objects,” someone else added while another worried that the baby “could poke its eyes out” – calling the mum a terrible parent.

“WTF? You are supposed to keep a baby’s nails trimmed so they don’t scratch themselves,” a fourth person quickly chimed in to add.

Fellow mum attacked giving baby fake nails

Disturbingly, this is far from the first time a mum has attracted attention online from giving her baby a manicure.

In May this year, a mum shared photos of her infant’s tiny fingers which had been completely covered in huge fake nails.

The baby’s hands were dominated by the enormous acrylic nails which had been subtly been decorated with glitter, diamantes and a Louis Vuitton logo.

Although it is unclear where the photo was originally posted, it was shared on Reddit where commenters immediately expressed concerns for the baby’s safety.

“I’m concerned this baby will poke her eye out,” one commenter said.

“I didn’t realise what was wrong until I saw the hand,” another added while another said that this was "how your child gets hurt"

“Has this person never been around an infant before? The poke and prod every hole and orifice on their body," someone else said.

Reddit commenters defend baby's fake nails

However, other commenters defended the mum, arguing that the nails were simply stick on nails which the mum had applied for “fun” during lockdown.

“They’re temporary press on nails, probably just for a silly pic if mom does nails,” one person argued.

“I wouldn’t do that but I’m sure it’s just a fun dress up pic,” another quickly added.

“As long as they were stuck on with an adhesive tab (like a STICKER) I don’t see anything wrong with taking a picture in them to be silly or play dress up,” a third commenter said.

“Looks like someone just having fun with their kid,” another kindly added.

What do you think? Would you give your baby a manicure?
